Myth: The Fallen Lords demo

In a time long past, a great comet appeared in the northern sky. It stirred foul creatures beneath the earth, and a great evil came out of the East, in a black tide that sought not to conquer, but to destroy and become master of the unthinking dead and their blasted lands. Heroes were born in the fire and bloodshed of the next 70 years, and their names and deeds will never be forgotten. Myth: The Fallen Lords features a true 3D engine, a realistic look, and network capability. This demo of Myth: The Fallen Lords includes a tutorial level, two single-player levels, and one multiplayer level. Multiplayer games can be played via a LAN, a direct TCP/IP connection or Bungie's free Internet game server, Bungie.net (you must have your own Internet account).
This 3D, real-time strategy game of 1997 is showing its age. By today's standards, the graphics of Myth: The Fallen Lords demo are uninspiring and the sound effects are only passable. The object of the game is to lead your units into battle to stop the enemy, either solo or with other players. Select foot soldiers, archers, gnomish grenadiers, or berserkers and arrange your units in nine formations. The unit selection is easy. Controlling the troops is more difficult because you can't zoom out enough to see the whole battle. The demo allows you to play two of the 25 available missions from the game and includes a much-needed training map. Unfortunately, poorly scripted cutscenes in the beginning of each mission give you few clues for winning. Strategy buffs interested in retro games may find Myth: The Fallen Lords amusing, but this game's heyday has come and gone.
